Why Marriage, Family, Finances?
It’s no secret that maintaining a marriage, family and finances can be a challenge. Marriage, raising kids and handling money come without instructions. Most of us have limited knowledge in these 3 areas. We learned what we do know from our parents. Most of us struggle along through trial and error until we figure out what works.
Our impression of marriage, family and finances was formed throughout our childhood by our parents. Your parents may have had a loving, blissful marriage. Or in contrast, they may have had a struggling, disconnected relationship. Maybe your parents divorced after many years of pain and struggle. As a result of how your parents modeled marriage, raising kids and their finances you learned their behavior, good or bad.
Turns out there is significant research to confirm that modeling by parents is a key component in a child’s development. A study published in 2009 by the US Department of Health and Human Services found that the quality of a child’s parents’ marriage had as much influence on his or her future as his or her own relationship with each parent.
Daniel L Buccino, cofounder of the Baltimore Psychotherapy Institute explains that, “the most important relationship in any family is the marital one, and the best thing parents can do for their children is to love each other. By making the effort to value each other, parents model and teach their children important lessons about intimacy, conflict, and balancing work and home.”
Bottom line is, we all desire abundance in our marriage, family and finances. While we may not have the ideal foundation we can create positive change. Especially relevant is what you desire in your marriage, family and finances. Furthermore, you can do it, it’s never too late.
In order to live in abundance in these 3 areas:
- we need to examine our current situation
- identify what we learned from our parents
- determine what we desire for our marriage, family and finances
Why do we accept less than we expect? Why do we struggle day after day? Primarily because we lack the necessary knowledge to make positive changes. Consequently, with a desire and a plan you can achieve the life you’ve hoped for. Start today, make the choice for a better tomorrow!
